We wanted to combine our passions for sailing, coast-path walks and working with tactile hardwoods, so we created South Deep and named it after our favourite anchorage in a quiet corner of Poole Harbour. We make our hand-crafted lights and lampshades from inspiration that comes from our local cruising ground along the Jurassic Coast, from Dorset's Poole Harbour in the East to Devon's Exmouth in the West. With its many lighthouses and woodland backdrops of ancient Oaks, Beeches and Elms it's the perfect inspiration for our venture.

We create contemporary styles using these beautiful solid hardwoods with designs that reveal the natural textures and character of the grain. Simple finishes of oils and waxes are used to retain the inherent warmth and hue of the wood resulting in tactile lights that will complement any setting.

Poole Harbour

Arguably the second largest natural harbour in the world. But its seemingly huge expanse of water can catch out the unwary as most of it is shallow enough to paddle in.

Old Harry

Once connected to the Needles off of the Isle of Wight, this chalk stack marks the eastern point of the Jurassic Coast and the entrance to Poole Harbour.

Portland Bill

The lighthouse at Portland Bill is still in operation protecting ships from the hazardous waters around Portland.
