Our lights are finished with several coats of oil, usually but not exclusively Danish Oil, to penetrate the surface and provide long-lasting protection. They are then given a minimum of three coats of high quality wax polish with a large percentage of Carnuba wax to bring out the wonderful natural grain and provide a lasting sheen.
To maintain the finish they should only require an occasional dusting with a dry microfibre cloth. If required, the application of a good quality solid wax polish, or furniture polish, should restore the original finish. But please be aware that pure beeswax has quite a low melting point and can sometimes leave finger prints if handled. Our lights are quite tactile so a blend of beeswax and Carnuba is preferred.
Never use a damp or moist cloth to clean the lights and avoid using spray polishes. Very few aerosol polishes actually contain any wax, in fact you are likely to be removing the wax originally used to protect the timber by using a spray.
Remember that our lights are made from solid hard wood, not veneer, so with this light-touch approach to maintenance they will give many years of enjoyment.
